First major retrospective Charlotte Dumas
7-10-2009 |
The Foam Photography Museum in Amsterdam presents Paradis, the first major retrospective of the work of Dutch photographer Charlotte Dumas (32), for which Rabobank has loaned two pieces and acquired an additional new one.

Dumas creates intimate, contemplative portraits of animals. For the first time in one exhibition, Dumas presents a selection from the many animal portrait series she has produced in recent years, establishing new relationships between the portraits of subjects (including horses, wolves and tigers) and drawing out unexpected similarities between these animals. For her subjects, Dumas chooses the animals that are close to us and play important roles in our lives. Every animal Dumas photographs is placed in a human domain, usually in captivity. In a classic style, and almost always in centre frame, she captures moments of quiet concentration. The psychology of the portrait plays a major role in her work.
The exhibition Paradis can be seen until November 22th in The Foam Photography Museum in Amsterdam.
