Maria Roosen wins 2009 Singer Award
Maria Roosen has been presented with the 2009 Singer Award for her original and unorthodox oeuvre. The jury selected her for this oeuvre award due to her ability to repeatedly express her personal, thematic ‘story’ in a recognisable manner. She employs her artistic image language imaginatively and frequently uses glass as the starting point for innovative combinations of materials.
Singer Laren was exhibiting a selection of Roosen’s work from 29 March through 24 May 2009. Maria Roosen chose ten ‘showpieces’ from her oeuvre for this exhibition. Both each individual work and the works as a combined collection illuminate the key aspects of her oeuvre and way of thinking and creating. By involving the Singer Laren collection in her selection, she succeeds in creating combinations that are fresh, spontaneous and surprising both for her and museum visitors. In connection with the 2009 Singer Award, Maria Roosen joined forces with the Valiz publishing company to compile a new publication entitled 'Maria Roosen, Monster' in which she reflects on the working process that she has developed over the past fifteen years.
The Rabo Art Collection has acquired ten of Roosen’s artworks, including two masterpieces: Paren from 2002 and Roosenkrans from 1997.
